Portsdown Hill, Portsmouth.

I wanted to share my two passions in life My Mini and the army, Regiment, Chieftain Tank. I went driving around Portsdown Hill yesterday and thought I’d take a moment picturing the two together as the opportunity was there!

I was eventually stopped by the security guard as I was on private land (didn’t know it at the time), but thankfully I was not asked to remove the pictures I had already taken.

The Mini and The Chieftain Tank (MK10) Stillbrew.

I was trained on Chieftain as a Gunner and Operater in 1978 at the Catterick Training Depot for the Royal Armoured Corps. And I still have great affection for her to this day, hard dirty work but the people that you work with are family, always will be, that is what makes being a tanky / soldier so special.

During conversation with the owner of the tank I was asked to leave my telephone number as he may need my help in the future, now that I look forward to. I am not sure I would be able to climb up there but I would love to give it a go.

Queen Victoria: Nothing to do with the Chieftain but it is a rare thing to see these days and I had to share it. I found it in Fort Southwick where the tank is on show. If only they’d restore it, fantastic piece.
